Lectures Dr. Naidorf has given to students, residents and post-graduate physicians:
1. How to Deal with Difficult Patients: A thorough review of what we expect of “good” patients, adaptive and maladaptive responses to illness and medical treatment, understanding the clinicians’ response to challenging patients with useful tools to employ so that we can change our thoughts about difficult patients. We can change how we think about difficult patients.
2. What is your Top Job? Some thoughts on perfectionism, imposter syndrome, closure, and resisting reality in the emergency department and clinical practice settings: A wellness lecture discussing some unhelpful thought patterns physicians inadvertently fall into at the job and at home.
3. How to Improve the Doctor-Patient Relationship: a review of the ethics of the doctor-patient relationship with emphasis on informed consent, improving communications, review of effective interview questions and active listening.
4. Ethical Issues in Medical Training: a review meant to stimulate further discussion on resident work hours, cost of medical education, sexual harassment, racial bias, reporting mistakes, the hidden curriculum and burnout.
5. Managing Time, Overwhelm, and Burn-out: an in depth look at the mental construct of time, our thoughts of overwhelm, and looking at burnout from a more empowering perspective.
6. Diagnosing Cancer in the Emergency Department: A review of the issue including some shocking statistics, why we don’t do it, and why we should keep remembering it so we do it.
